The Freedom Room originated from an article about rehabilitation through art in american prisons in the late 1990's.

The setting, sound and the design of the film are created to give the audience a feel of displacement and heightened reality. 

The set was designed to give the impression that the action takes place on a stage, and is displaced from any kind of true reality - perhaps the film all takes place inside the head of a prisoner.
